Board Certified Specialist in Psychometry Exam Accommodation Policy

1. Purpose

The Board of Certified Psychometrists (BCP) is committed to equitable exam access for all candidates pursuing the Certified Specialist in Psychometry (BCSPe) credential. This policy establishes the procedures for requesting testing accommodations including but not limited to extended time, and medically necessary breaks while maintaining exam integrity and standardized conditions.

2. Scope

This policy applies to all candidates registering for any administration of the BCSP Exam who require accommodations due to a qualifying medical, psychological, or physical condition.

3. Eligibility for Accommodations

Candidates may request one or more accommodations such as extended time, permission for medical devices for documented medical conditions, and medically necessary breaks (e.g. restroom breaks) for a documented medical condition, or functional limitation validated by appropriate documentation. Detailed diagnoses are not required; documentation should describe the functional impact related to testing.

4. Accommodation Request Procedures

4.1 Submission Timeline

To ensure adequate processing and coordination with the testing vendor:

  • All accommodation requests must be submitted no later than 60 days prior to the exam for which the candidate is applying.
  • Requests received after the 60-day cycle deadline may be deferred to the next available exam cycle.

4.2 Required Materials

Candidates requesting accommodations must submit a completed BCSPe Accommodation Request Form; supporting documentation from a licensed professional describing functional limitations and recommended accommodations, and any prior testing accommodation history (optional).

4.3 Review Process

The BCP Exam Administration Committee will acknowledge receipt within five business days and issue a determination within 15 business days.

4.4 Implementation

Approved accommodations will be coordinated with the testing vendor and proctoring site. For breaks (such as restroom), the exam timer will not stop unless medically justified and explicitly approved.

5. Notes on Restroom Breaks

Candidates must notify the proctor before leaving the room via the proper procedure and then clicking on the coffee cup icon before leaving. No additional time is granted unless explicitly approved. Breaks will be logged for exam security auditing and re-entry to the testing environment may require a security screening by the proctor after each break.

Due to exam security protocols, any questions answered, skipped, or flagged before a break will become locked and cannot be revisited after the candidate returns from the break. Items viewed prior to leaving the testing room will not be reviewable, modifiable, or accessible for the remainder of the exam session. When a break is necessary, answer the question currently on the screen without advancing to the next question, notify the proctor via chat, then click on the coffee cup icon on the upper part of your screen, this will lock and hide the exam. Upon return, notify the proctor via chat, a security screen may be performed by the proctor and you will continue with the next question on your exam by clicking on the screen. Because of security screen processes, and exam timer continuing during breaks, 30 minutes will be added to the candidate's exam time.

6. Items Needed for Medical Breaks

When necessary, recommended by a physician, and approved by the BCP, candidates may have beverages other than water when required for a documented medical condition (e.g. apple juice or orange juice for diabetes). Snacks necessary to manage a medical condition may also be permitted. Additionally, candidates may keep a cell phone with them for medical monitoring purposes. It must remain visible to the proctor at all times during the exam. Phones must be placed in airplane mode and disconnected from Wi-Fi to ensure that only medically related notifications are received.
